Ledger Live on Every Platform: Official Download and Install Guide

Whether you use a Windows laptop, a Mac, a Linux desktop or a phone, the rule for getting Ledger Live is the same: start at ledger.com, the only official domain of Ledger SAS. This guide walks through each platform separately so you know exactly what a genuine download looks like on your system.

Official Name Update

The app now carries the name Ledger Wallet (formerly Ledger Live). Nothing about the safe download process has changed with the rename.

Verified Official Source Only

Direct Access to Verified Ledger Wallet Releases

This independent editorial site hosts no files. Access authentic Ledger SAS installation binaries directly from the verified vendor portal.

Getting to the Real Download Page

1

Direct Domain Entry

Type ledger.com directly into your browser. Skip search ads.

2

Domain Verification

Check that the domain is precisely ledger.com. Lookalikes such as ledger.io or hyphenated variants are not Ledger.

3

Open the Ledger Wallet Page

Open the Ledger Wallet page (shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-wallet is the same official site).

4

Select Target Platform

Choose your platform. For mobile, use the store buttons on that page.

5

Bookmark Authentic URL

Bookmark it for all future updates and checks.

Windows Installation

  1. Download the .exe from ledger.com.
  2. Open it. In the User Account Control dialog, confirm that the verified publisher is Ledger.
  3. Accept the installer steps and launch the app.

Unknown Publisher Alert

If Windows reports an unknown publisher, the file did not come from Ledger. Delete it.

macOS Installation

  1. Download the .dmg from ledger.com.
  2. Double-click it and drag the app to Applications.
  3. Open it from Applications. macOS checks the signature; it should identify Ledger as the developer.

Linux Installation

  1. Download the .AppImage from ledger.com.
  2. Grant execute permission: chmod +x plus the file name, or tick “Allow executing” in file properties.
  3. Launch it. If the device is not seen over USB, add the udev rules from Ledger’s support documentation and reconnect.

Linux Terminal Command

To grant execution permissions to the downloaded AppImage via terminal:

chmod +x ledger-live-desktop-*.AppImage

5

Genuine Cryptographic Check

Complete the Genuine check, which confirms the hardware is authentic.

6

Coin Apps & Portfolio

Use My Ledger to install apps for the coins you hold, then add accounts.

When you send or receive, confirm the address and amount on the device screen. With Clear Signing, supported transactions show readable details before you approve.

Risks of Unofficial Sources

Downloading from anywhere other than ledger.com or the official stores exposes you to:

  • Recovery phrase theft through fake “restore” or “verify” screens
  • Malware bundled into repackaged installers
  • Address substitution by clipboard-hijacking software
  • Fake firmware or app updates delivered through pop-ups, emails or messages
  • Permanent loss of funds, since on-chain transfers can’t be undone

Red Flags by Platform

  • Windows: unknown publisher, installer delivered inside a .zip
  • macOS: the system warns the developer cannot be verified
  • Linux: a “Ledger” script you’re told to pipe into your terminal from a random site
  • Mobile: a store listing from a different developer, or very few reviews

Golden Custody Principle

Most important: never type your 24 words into any website, app form, chat or support request. They belong on paper and inside your device — nowhere else.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell the Windows installer is genuine?

Download it only from ledger.com and check the publisher name in the Windows security prompt. It should show Ledger.

Does Ledger Live work on Linux?

Yes. Ledger provides an AppImage. You may need udev rules for the device to be recognized over USB.

Someone from “Ledger support” asked for my 24 words. What should I do?

Stop responding. Ledger never asks for your recovery phrase. Anyone who does is attempting theft.

Is searching the app store for “Ledger” safe?

It is safer to follow the store link from ledger.com, then confirm the developer is Ledger before installing.

Do I need Ledger Recover to use the app?

No. Ledger Recover is an optional paid backup subscription. The app works fully without it.
